We hear things!

The course "We Hear Things!" invites you to rediscover the world of sound with open ears. The focus is on the sonic properties of everyday objects, the instruments from LUNASON, and how music can emerge step by step from a simple sound idea. Participants learn that sound is hidden everywhere and that the search for a special sound can be the starting point for musical creation and even for the development of new instruments. The starting point is an object from your own daily life. It is stroked, struck, plucked, or set into vibration in other ways and its sonic possibilities are explored. Participants learn to listen carefully, try out different playing techniques, and develop a very personal sound from an everyday object. These soundscapes are encountered with innovative and contemporary instruments from LUNASON. Participants become familiar with the instruments, can try them out themselves, and experience what distinguishes an everyday object from a consciously conceived and developed musical instrument. It becomes clear that an intensive search for sound is also at the beginning of every instrument development. From the sounds discovered, participants then develop their own musical ideas. In small groups, they create drawings and graphic representations of sound, for example, from concepts like rain, wind, movement, or machine. These are then interpreted musically and form the basis for a collaboratively developed score and improvisation. Under guidance, the individual sound ideas are tested, connected, and further developed into a cohesive musical sequence. Listening, reacting, dynamics, interplay, and collaborative creation are just as central as the joy of experimentation. The resulting improvisation is then presented as a joint concert. "We Hear Things!" combines discovery, listening, experimentation, instrument development, and collaborative music-making, playfully demonstrating that a musical idea can emerge from almost any sound.
